“Tata, the Tataviam Towhee by Alan Puchuk Yaʼiaʼc Salazar was the first Fernandeño Tataviam story told and recorded by a tribal elder. Mona Lewis painted the illustrations using handmade natural pigments respectfully sourced from Tataviam lands in Southern California. In addition to Alan’s story, this 52-page children’s book includes a section on Tataviam history, art tutorials for making and painting with natural pigments, and coloring pages. I art directed and designed the cover and interior inspired by Mona’s beautiful illustrations.”
